DOHA 17 November 2024 — Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Lillibeth V. Pono championed sportsmanship, determination, and the pursuit of excellence in the 17th Bayanihan Qatar Federation Sports Festival at the Aspire Ladies Sports Hall on 15 November 2024.
Participated in by nearly 300 Filipinos from about 30 grassroots organizations in the service and construction sectors, the day-long event featured competitions in volleyball, basketball, table tennis, traditional games, and cheerdancing.
In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Pono said Filipinos’ love for sports resonates with the dynamic sports culture in Qatar.
“Despite differences in our provincial roots and way of doing things, we are united in celebrating the value of sports as a way of bringing members of the Filipino community in Qatar together,” she said.
She added, “In sports, we learn how it is to work hard and still fail, to pick oneself up, and muster the courage to be better. In sports, we learn the value of discipline and hard work. In sports, we come to terms with the notion that nothing worth having ever comes easy.”

DOHA 14 November 2024 — Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Lillibeth V. Pono joined members of the Filipino community in CFC-ANCOP Qatar’s Global Walk at the Aspire Academy MPH1 on 08 November 2024.
With the theme “Walk in the Light,” the event sought to shore up support for the group’s scholars in the Philippines.
“I share the organizers' optimism that this event will provide hope, and more importantly, better educational opportunities for young beneficiaries in the Philippines,” Ambassador Pono said.

DOHA 13 November 2024 — Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Lillibeth V. Pono underscored the need for sustainable and resilient infrastructure during the inaugural conference of the Qatar Chapter of the Road Engineering Association of the Philippines on 08 November 2024.
“Sustainable infrastructure means designing transportation systems that minimize their environmental impact and enhance energy efficiency,” she said. “This involves incorporating innovative technologies, such as smart transportation systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and renewable energy sources, among others. By embracing these technologies, we can reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and mitigate the effects of climate change.”
She added that the country’s infrastructure must also be able to withstand the impacts of extreme weather events, natural disasters, and other unforeseen challenges.
“By designing and constructing resilient infrastructure, we can minimize disruptions, reduce economic losses, and ensure the long-term viability of our transportation networks,” she said.
Ambassador Pono also recognized the outsized role of Filipino engineers, including road and transport engineers, in spurring development and progress in Qatar and the broader GCC region.

DOHA 11 November 2024 — The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar showcased the rich and vibrant culture and heritage of the Philippines during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Global Public Diplomacy Network at the Katara Cultural Village in Doha on 7-8 November 2024.
As an active member of this international network, the Philippines made significant contributions to GPDNet's "Cultural Festival." These contributions included participation in the photo exhibition, coin and stamp display, and the Cultural Night of songs and dances.
During the Cultural Night on 08 November, Qatar-based Filipino performers captivated local and expatriate audiences with a vibrant showcase of Filipino culture, transporting them to the tropical landscapes of the Philippines.
The Maharlikans Vocal Ensemble Philippines, students from Philippine School Doha and Philippine International School-Qatar, and the Banyuhay Dance Group Philippines delighted the audience with their vibrant performance of songs and dances. The performance highlighted the rich cultural tapestry of the different regions in the Philippines.
For the grand finale, a captivating performance of “Pangalay sa Kawayan,” a traditional dance on bamboo poles, elicited cheers and applause from the audience.
The Embassy congratulates Katara Cultural Village and GPDNet for providing the platform to enhance public appreciation of the diverse cultures present in Qatar and for fostering cultural understanding among both local and expatriate communities in the country.
