DOHA 06 October 2024 -- The Migrant Workers Office of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar, along with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Pag-IBIG, and Social Security System (SSS), organized a series of presentations on the rights and duties of migrant workers in Qatar at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on 28 September 2024.
The day-long event, which saw the participation of over 200 leaders from various Filipino community groups, also provided an overview of the services provided by the Philippine Government to OFWs.
In her opening remarks, Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Lillibeth V. Pono said, “Our collective goal is to have an informed and empowered community. A community that is able to maximize opportunities and articulate concerns. A community that is able to foster healthy discourse with relevant authorities. And a community that provides assistance in ensuring mutually beneficial employer-employee relationships.”
The series of presentations included discussions on laws and regulations governing labor conditions in Qatar, as well as the support services provided by relevant authorities in the Host Country.
Led by OIC and Assistant Labor Attaché Don Albert Philippe Pangcog, MWO-Qatar also provided a re-familiarization of the various Philippine agencies attached to and operating under the Philippine Embassy in Qatar, including the plans, programs, and benefits provided to OFWs.
Conducted alongside the labor education seminar were the registration for overseas Filipino voters and a lecture on the 2016 Arbitral Award by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Jeffrey D. Batac as part of the Embassy’s observance of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo).

DOHA 05 October 2024 — Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Lillibeth V. Pono headed the Philippine delegation to the 2nd Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Business Forum at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on 02 October 2024.
With the theme “Artificial Intelligence and New Business Models,” the Business Forum provided a platform for ACD Member States and commercial enterprises to engage in discussions on the ways artificial intelligence is transforming commerce and trade.
Ambassador Pono said the Philippines supports ACD as a “pan-Asian platform for dialogue and cooperation for the development and progress of our region as an Asian community.”
Referring to artificial intelligence as a “game changer,” Ambassador Pono said the latest developments in this field have been revolutionizing business models across various industries. It does so by introducing new ways to create, deliver, and obtain value for businesses, including methods on data monetization, process automation, predictive analytics, enhanced decision-making, and integration of artificial intelligence in products and services.
Ambassador Pono said the Philippines “looks forward to working together with the ACD Member States in discussing how artificial intelligence and its impact on business will shape our common future.”
She added that Manila, along with the rest of the ACD Member States, “will continue to find ways to maximize the potential of artificial intelligence in business to benefit everyone, especially in this uncertain world buffeted by events beyond our control.”

DOHA 04 October 2024 — Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Lillibeth V. Pono lauded the designation of “Sports Diplomacy” as the theme for the 3rd Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on 03 October 2024.
Heading the Philippine delegation to the pan-Asian gathering, Ambassador Pono said pursuing sports diplomacy is timely, given sport’s universal role in fostering peace, understanding, friendship and goodwill among nations, further enhanced by the tourism sector’s major role in enhancing people-to-people connectivity, in line with the ACD pillar on culture and tourism.
The Philippine is one of the founding members of the ACD, which was inaugurated in 2002. It aims to promote Asian cooperation at a continental level to constitute the missing link in Asia, and build a strong future for the Asian community without duplicating the role of other regional organizations.
Delivering the national statement, Ambassador Pono said, “The Philippines joins the rest of the ACD Member States in shaping this common Asian future and ushering in this new era through the work of the ACD.”
She also called for the expeditious implementation of the ACD Blueprint 2021-2030 across all pillars. She said the Philippines stands ready to support the prime movers of the six ACD working groups, namely the Working Group on Connectivity, the Working Group on Science, Technology and Innovation, the Working Group on Education and Human Resource Development, the Working Group on Interrelations of Food, Water and Energy Security, the Working Group on Culture and Tourism; and the Working Group on Promoting Approaches to Inclusive and Sustainable Development.
“These priorities are well aligned with our own national agenda,” Ambassador Pono said. “We commit to exploring opportunities for action and collaboration with members as we strive to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.”
In response to the latest developments in the region, Ambassador Pono said the Philippines reiterates its call for the resolution of disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law.
“We underscore the importance of the rule of law,” she said. “Together with the rest of the ACD Member States, the Philippines reaffirms the primacy of the rules-based international order as the overarching framework in finding immediate and just solutions to the various crises facing the world today.”
