DOHA 15 June 2025 — For the third year in a row, iconic landmarks in Doha were lit up with the Philippine flag in commemoration of the 127th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence on 12 June 2025.

Along with members of the Filipino expatriate community, officers and personnel of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar gathered at the Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel in West Bay and Al Jaber Twin Towers in Lusail to watch and cheer as both buildings flashed the Philippine flag.

Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, said it was a proud moment to see the Philippine flag displayed prominently in the heart of Doha.

“I wish to thank everyone who came out here tonight to join us as we yet again witness such a fantastic sight,” he said. “We also thank our friends from our host country, Qatar, for the support and assistance in making this event possible.”

The first to display the Philippine flag was the Al Jaber Twin Towers in Lusail’s Marina District. Housing offices, a hotel, and retail facilities, the twin buildings feature a unique dynamic architecture with criss-cross grids that glow at night.

This was followed by Sheraton Grand Doha. The five-star luxury hotel’s pyramid-like structure has been a constant fixture in the Doha skyline since its construction in 1979.
