19 February 2018 DOHA – The Philippine Embassy in Doha participated in the celebration of the Qatar National Sports day in simultaneous events held at The Diplomatic Club and the City Center Rotana Hotel on February 13.
The Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, hosted an early morning gathering for the diplomatic corps and members of their family at the Diplomatic Club. The event offered various sporting events and recreational activities such as outdoor zumba session, beach volleyball, basketball, table tennis, provision of exercise equipment such as stationary bikes, outdoor playground for kids, camel and horseback ride by the beach, a photo booth with falcons, and medical check-up booths.
Meanwhile, the Filipino Community Sports and Wellness celebration at the City Centre Rotana Hotel highlighted traditional Filipino games such patintero, luksong lubid, luksong tinik, and sungka. The community event also featured the 1st Oryx Gan Soo Doo Qatar Ambassador's Cup, a mixed martial arts tournament with children and adult categories. The afternoon leg of the event provided musical and dance performances, zumba session, and capped with a ballroom dancing competition in the evening.
The Embassy also set up a mobile services booth for the overseas voting registration as well as to provide assistance with SSS and Pag-IBIG related queries.
The Qatar National Sports Day is annual national holiday which is celebrated across the country in order to raise awareness on the importance of sports and wellness in everyday life. It aims to encourage the local and expatriate community in Qatar to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. His Highness The Emir, Sheikh Tamin Bin Hamad Al Thani, led a group of cyclist along Doha corniche to jumpstart the day-long celebration. Other members of the royal family and high-ranking official also led simultaneous activities all over Doha.

03 January 2018 DOHA – The Philippine Embassy in Doha held a short program at the Embassy grounds and at Sentro Rizal, respectively, on 30 December 2017 in commemoration of the 121st Martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
In his welcome remarks, Philippine Embassy Charge d’affaires, a.i. Roussel Reyes, highlighted that to honor Dr. Rizal, it is important to be reminded of his virtues and teachings, and to continue being modern-day heroes in our own ways. Thereafter, Nel Ezekiel Ambaic, a student of the Philippine School Doha (PSD), clothed as a young Rizal, rendered a heartfelt declamation piece.
The Philippine Embassy hosted a traditional Filipino breakfast consisting of lugaw, pan de sal, coffee, and boiled eggs after which the little binibinis and ginoos were ushered to the Embassy’s Sentro Rizal for the story-telling activity. The interactive story-telling of the book “Dalawang Bayani ng Bansa” was facilitated by Teacher Grace Alicamen, a Grade Four Language Teacher of the PSD and joined by the students from PSD, including children of Embassy personnel. Souvenir art kits were distributed to each of the students.

12 December 2017 DOHA — The Philippine Embassy, together with local community partners, recently held the Kulinarya Qatar Philippine Regional Food Festival at the Asia Town Activity Center in Industrial Area in Doha on December 08.
The one-day community event featured tradional Philippine regional food booths and exhibits, Filipino cultural and tourism shows, traditional performances, Sagala parade and wellness activities. The food booths featured the traditional cuisines and dishes from various regions in the Philippines, such as central Luzon (kapampangan and tagalog dishes), western Visayas (chicken inasal, batikolon, lapaz bathoy, pancit molo) and southern Mindanao (tiyula itum, putli mandi, kiyuning chicken rice, baulu).
During the opening of the regional festival, Charge d’ Affaires Roussel R. Reyes in his welcome remarks said, “the regional food festival organized by Kulinarya aims to promote Philippine culture and cuisine. It allows us to showcase Filipino food - which is a major component of our culture.”
Mobile overseas voting registration and consular services inquiries were provided to the community during the festival. More than 60 applicants successfully registered under the different categories of voters’ registration.
This activity is part of the Kulinarya Qatar program of the Embassy which is part of its economic and cultural diplomacy initiatives that highlights Philippine cuisine and culture in promoting the Philippines as a preferred tourism and business destination. Upcoming projects and activities include the Filipino street food festival, participating in the Qatar Tourism Authority - Qatar International Food Festival and visiting celebrity chefs and culinary professionals from the Philippines.
