DOHA 17 June 2024 — Led by Her Excellency Ambassador Lillibeth V. Pono, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar joined members of the Filipino community in commemorating the 126th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence at the Arab International Academy on 14 June 2024.
“Today, we recall the heroism of our forebears because to remember is to honor their legacy, “Ambassador Pono said. “To remember is to relish in the pride and glory of a nation of brave people.”
The community event was organized by the Guardians Legion Qatar along with Bayanihan Qatar and The Brotherhood Organization.
It was one of the many Filipino community-led activities lined up throughout the months of June and July in Doha in celebration of Philippine Independence Day.

DOHA 14 June 2024 — Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Lillibeth V. Pono and His Excellency Australian Ambassador to the State of Qatar Shane Flanagan witnessed the signing of an MOU between the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers-Qatar Chapter, National Master Plumbers Association of the Philippines, Inc.-Qatar Chapter, and Engineers Australia-Qatar Chapter at the Australian Embassy in Doha on 13 June 2024.
The MOU establishes the framework to enhance the cooperation between the three groups on areas of mutual benefit.

DOHA 16 June 2024 — In commemoration of the 126th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar hosted a reception at the Ritz-Carlton Doha on 13 June 2024.
The reception was graced by His Excellency Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali al-Mohannadi and His Excellency Director of the Department of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakrouh, along with other notable Qatari officials, heads of diplomatic missions, partner institutions, and members of the Filipino expatriate community.
“The Philippine Embassy here in the State of Qatar joins the millions of Filipinos all over the world in this remarkable moment of remembrance, where we celebrate the interconnectedness of freedom, the present, and the future,” said Her Excellency Ambassador Lillibeth V. Pono in her keynote address.
Ambassador Pono also lauded the excellent bilateral relations between the Philippines and the State of Qatar, saying, “Our relationship with Qatar is founded on robust people-to-people ties, anchored on the presence of over 240,000 Filipinos in this country from across various sectors and industries. They call Qatar their second home, and collectively, they contribute to the economic vibrancy and dynamism that this peninsula is known for.”
The event was capped off by unique gustatory delights from the tropics and performances showcasing the vibrant artistic culture of the Philippines.

DOHA 15 June 2024 — Officials from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Board of Mechanical Engineering (BME) paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Lillibeth V. Pono, Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar, on 14 June 2024.
The PRC and BME officials are in Doha ahead of the conduct of the Special Professional Licensure Examinations (SPLE) for overseas Filipinos on 16-19 June 2024.
This year’s SPLE in Doha covers 22 professional licensure board examinations across various disciplines. Over 400 Filipino examinees residing and/or working in Qatar are expected to take the examinations.
Pursuant to Executive Order No. 835, series of 2009, the SPLE is held annually to give unlicensed OFWs the opportunity to take the licensure board examinations while residing and/or working in the Middle East region without the need of returning to the Philippines.
