DOHA 14 June 2025 — In observance of the 127th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar held a commemorative flag-raising ceremony at the Embassy Chancery on 12 June 2025.

The ceremony was participated in by Embassy personnel, including those from partner agencies, namely Migrant Workers Office, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, SSS, and Pag-IBIG, as well as members of the Filipino expatriate community.

In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, underscored the valiant efforts of heroes past and the tenacity of modern-day Filipinos to achieve and protect the liberties the nation enjoys today.

“Our collective history of triumph in asserting our national independence, as well as the relentless drive of the Filipino people to overcome complex challenges, speaks volumes of the spirit of a nation unbowed,” he said. “This is the same spirit that guides our nation as it charts its own unique journey towards a just, progressive, and ecologically sound future in a friendly, peaceful, and rules-based global community.”

He added, “Indeed, as we mark our 127th Independence Day, we heed the national and global imperatives for comprehensive peace, justice, sustainable and inclusive growth, and shared environmental consciousness and responsibility.”

The event included the viewing and reading of the Independence Day messages of Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo, Secretary of Migrant Workers Hans Leo J. Cacdac, OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, and First Lady Maria Louise “Liza” Araneta Marcos.

It also featured stirring performances by violinist Willie Munar and singer and theater artist Kenneth Cataylo.

The commemorative event ended with a community breakfast featuring classic Filipino dishes.
