DOHA 27 January 2025 — Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, presented his Letter of Credence to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, in a reception ceremony held at the Amiri Diwan on 27 January 2025.
The presentation of credentials marked the formal commencement of Ambassador Melicor’s tenure as the head of the Philippine diplomatic mission in Doha.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Melicor conveyed the warm greetings of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and the Filipino people to His Highness the Amir and the friendly people of the State of Qatar.
He also affirmed his commitment to enhancing the robust diplomatic relations between the two countries through the conclusion and implementation of mutually beneficial programs and agreements.
The ceremony began with a procession from the Ambassador’s residence to Amiri Diwan, where he was received by the Commander of the Guard of Honor.
This was followed by the inspection ceremony at the inner yard of the Amiri Diwan where the Army Musical Band played “Lupang Hinirang” and “as-Salam al-Amiri,” the respective national anthems of the Philippines and Qatar.
Ambassador Melicor was accompanied by his spouse, Mme Villaray Hope Noro Melicor.
The day prior, Ambassador Melicor provided a copy of his credentials to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi.

DOHA 20 January 2025 — The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar joined other members of the ASEAN Committee in Doha (ACD) in paying a courtesy call on Her Excellency Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad on 16 January 2025.
Among the items discussed were the latest developments in the region, as well as ways to enhance cooperation between ASEAN and the State of Qatar.
The Philippine Embassy was represented by First Secretary and Consul General Cassandra B. Sawadjaan. Also present were the heads of the diplomatic missions to Qatar of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

DOHA 16 January 2025 — His Excellency Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, the new Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the State of Qatar, arrived in Doha on 15 January 2025 to formally assume his post.
Together with his spouse, Mme Villaray Hope Noro Melicor, Ambassador Melicor was received at the airport by Embassy officials and representatives of the Government of the State of Qatar, led by His Excellency Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Director of the Department of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
A native of Cagayan de Oro, Ambassador Melicor is a career diplomat with decades-long experience in the foreign service.
His previous postings were at the Philippine Consulates and Embassies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Germany, Libya, and Poland.
Prior to being designated to lead the Philippine diplomatic mission in the State of Qatar, Ambassador Melicor was the Assistant Secretary for Middle East and African Affairs at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila.
