DOHA 06 October 2023 — Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar H.E. Lillibeth V. Pono noted the dynamism and complexity of Philippine culture during the Filipino heritage night at the Qatar National Library on 15 September 2023.
Dubbed “Experience Filipino Heritage: A Journey of Discovery on Culture, Arts and Talents,” the event was organized by the Philippine International School-Qatar, in collaboration with the Qatar National Library, and with the support of the Philippine Embassy.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Pono noted that the Filipino culture “has been forged and continues to be reshaped by our history and our environment.” She adds that “It is a culture that is never static. It is dynamic and complex. It follows us. It manifests itself in untold ways. It is, as the movie goes, everything and everywhere all at once.”
The event also fell on a September, which is when the Philippines commemorates the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month, or MANA Mo.
“One of the strongest indicators of Filipino culture is how the status of the Philippines as a maritime and archipelagic country, one that is strongly committed to a rules-based international order, has permeated our way of doing things,” Ambassador Pono said. “We are an archipelago of over 7,000 islands bound by oceans and seas. We have a rich maritime heritage and culture that we as Filipinos should be proud of.”
