
23 January 2017 – Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C. Santos called on His Highness Sheik Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, at the Emir’s palace on January 04 to mark the end of his tenure as the Philippine Ambassador to Qatar.
During the call, the Emir immediately conveyed his enthusiasm to welcome President Rodrigo Duterte to Qatar for a State Visit, and his desire to visit the Philippines in the future. The Emir said that as he has never visited to Philippines.
The Emir also affirmed mutual aspirations for strong bilateral relations between the Philippines and Qatar.
He commended the Philippines an active community in Qatar. He conveyed his appreciation to the Filipino Community for its valuable contribution to Qatar.
Ambassador Santos thanked the Emir for the audience and for the privilege granted by the Emir to represent the Philippines as envoy to Qatar. He thanked the Qatari government for its support and assistance to the Philippine Embassy in carrying out its tasks for the benefit of the Filipino Community in Qatar.
The Ambassador commended the Emir for the remarkable and unprecedented progress of Qatar. He also expressed his gratitude for the readiness of the Filipino expatriates in Qatar to contribute to Qatar’s nation-building efforts and aspirations for the future in keeping with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Ambassador Santos further conveyed to the Emir that the Philippines looks forward to exploring new areas for cooperation in various facets of the Philippines-Qatar bilateral relations, such as in trade, investment, tourism and labor.
He informed the Emir of how honored he is to have been a part of the efforts to strengthen the pillars of the Philippines-Qatar bilateral relations, and his aspiration to see both countries’ ties reach new heights and achieve new breakthroughs in the coming years.
