18 July 2016 – As a follow-up to the highly successful Kulinarya Qatar events of 2015, the Philippine Embassy in Doha, in coordination with the Filipino community, held the Iftar ng Bayan on July 03, which saw the attendees sharing an evening meal as Muslims ended their daily Ramadan fast at sunset. Filipino restaurant owners and other community members took part in this gathering.

Kulinarya Qatar is a brand/movement established by the Philippine Embassy that aims to promote Filipino cuisine in Qatar while highlighting the Philippines as a tourist and business destination. It is also a platform through which the Embassy can support Filipino restaurant owners as it is community-driven and supported by the Filipino community.

Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C. Santos congratulated the movers behind Kulinarya Qatar, specifically the Embassy’s Filipino community partners in the food business and FilCom leaders, as the movement celebrated its one year of success during the event.

Iftar ng Bayan served as a prelude to the Filipino Food Festival, which is slated for September 13 to 15. The search for the Little Miss Kulinarya (LMK), who will become the brand ambassador of Kulinarya 2016, was also launched during the Iftar ng Bayan.

Auditions for the search were held at two Filipino restaurants and featured talent competitions from young aspirants aged 4 to 8. The LMK 2016 winner will be declared during the 2nd Filipino Community Family Day to be held at the latter part of this year, also under the auspices of Kulinarya Qatar.

"I am very happy to see that our Filipino restaurant owners are united in their effort to promote our cuisine in this part of the world. This year, we will bring a celebrity chef here for a food week at a major hotel chain. We are also organizing familiarization tours for media and travel agents. We have talked to Resorts World Manila and our partners in the travel industry, including Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific, to be part of this project which we hope can contribute to the promotion of tourism to the Philippines," Ambassador Santos said.
