19 June 2014 – Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Crescente R. Relacion led the celebration of the 116th Anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence on June 12 with the hoisting of the Philippine flag, followed by the traditional almusal ng bayan and a poster making contest with the theme "Piyesta ng Pasasalamat".

The messages of President Benigno S. Aquino III, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario and Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, were also read during the Independence Day program.

On June 13, Kalayaan 2014 festivities opened with a grand parade for the Filipino community. The whole-day extravaganza featured colorful cultural presentations, trade fair and children's shows, singing contest and battle of the bands, comedy act by guest celebrities and a car show. The overseas voters registration was also conducted as part of the event.

Prior to the grand Filipino community celebration, several other pre-Independence day events were held like the launching of  the tourism campaign for Vigan as one of the New Seven Wonder Cities 2014 on 5-6 June, and the elimination round for the Rakrakan sa Kapistahan ng Kalayaan (battle of the bands) and Kantahan sa Doha on May 23.

In the evening of June 13, a surprise tribute for the Ambassador, on the final year of his tour of duty, was presented by the Filipino community in recognition of his exemplary performance and dedication to service of overseas Filiponos. END
