DOHA 17 May 2025 — The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar organized a town hall meeting entitled, “Guard Your Gains: Understanding and Preventing Investment Fraud,” at the Embassy Chancery on 16 May 2025.

Participated in by members of the Filipino community in Qatar, the event featured guest speakers Atty. Emilio B. Aquino, Chair and CEO of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Atty. Javey Paul Francisco, SEC Commissioner.

 

Atty. Aquino led the discussion on examining strategies for identifying investment scams, pursuing criminal prosecution of violators, and implementing preventive measures against fraud.

He also provided an overview of SEC’s enforcement functions, particularly as they relate to the prevention and investigation of investment scams.

Meanwhile, Atty. Francisco provided a briefer on SEC’s fully online process for company registration. The pioneering efforts towards digitalization aim to facilitate ease of doing business in the Philippines while assisting regulators in easily identifying perpetrators of investment fraud.

Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, said the conduct of the town hall meeting formed part of the Embassy’s broader objective of expanding the financial literacy and skillset of the Filipino expatriate community in Qatar.
