The symposium will bring together world-renowned ikat scholars and practitioners, with a special focus on Philippine ikat.
The World Ikat Textiles Symposium (WITS) was initiated by the Society Atelier Sarawak, AHPADA, and the World Crafts Council Asia Pacific, led by Edric Ong. Now in its fourth iteration, WITS includes participation from Asian countries, Australia, and the South Pacific Islands. WITS offers a platform to celebrate the global textile tradition of ikat, including significant representation from the Philippines.
The objectives of WITS are to educate the public about various ikat traditions, foster cross-cultural exchanges on issues impacting ikat-weaving communities, and develop connections among ikat artisans, craft organizations, and textile enthusiasts.
