ANNOUNCEMENTS
DOHA 13 November 2024 — Her Excellency Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Lillibeth V. Pono underscored the need for sustainable and resilient infrastructure during the inaugural conference of the Qatar Chapter of the Road Engineering Association of the Philippines on 08 November 2024.
“Sustainable infrastructure means designing transportation systems that minimize their environmental impact and enhance energy efficiency,” she said. “This involves incorporating innovative technologies, such as smart transportation systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and renewable energy sources, among others. By embracing these technologies, we can reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and mitigate the effects of climate change.”
She added that the country’s infrastructure must also be able to withstand the impacts of extreme weather events, natural disasters, and other unforeseen challenges.
“By designing and constructing resilient infrastructure, we can minimize disruptions, reduce economic losses, and ensure the long-term viability of our transportation networks,” she said.
Ambassador Pono also recognized the outsized role of Filipino engineers, including road and transport engineers, in spurring development and progress in Qatar and the broader GCC region.
