
07 March 2017, DOHA — The Philippine Embassy in Doha, assisted by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA) and the Office of the Social Welfare Attaché ensured the safety of more than 320 Filipinos affected by a fire that broke out at the Urbacon Contracting Company (UCC) labor camp in Al Shehaniya Municipality on March 03.
Representatives from the Embassy, POLO-OWWA, and the Social Welfare Attaché brought basic needs and personal care essentials to distribute to the people affected by the accident. The Filipino Community gathered additional supplies as well.
Filipino workers as well as workers of other nationalities were immediately moved to a safer area. There are no reported Filipino casualties.
The fire broke out at around 4:00 p.m. in one of the rooms of the labor camp. It was extinguished around three hours later. Qatari authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
The Embassy is closely coordinating with the Qatari authorities to monitor the situation and to make sure that all affected Filipinos are given the necessary assistance.
