A painting competition among Filipino High School students in Doha was held to celebrate February as National Arts Month found wide resonance.
DOHA 02 March 2025 — The Philippine Embassy in Doha, State of Qatar, in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Filipino Arts Society, recognized the top five winning artworks from the recently concluded two-week art competition in a ceremony on 27 February 2025.
Conducted from 9 until 25 February 2025 in celebration of the Philippine National Arts Month, the competition saw 73 submissions from Filipino high school students based in Qatar who creatively interpreted this year’s theme of “Ani ng Sining, Diwa, at Damdamin.”
In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar, His Excellency Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, expressed the Embassy’s appreciation to the overwhelming support and participation of Filipino students, majority of whom are from Philippine International School Qatar and Philippine School Doha.
The judging committee, led by visiting NCCA Deputy Executive Director Ms. Marichu Tellano and members of the Filipino Arts Society Ms. Joan Espinosa and Mr. Arsenio Nidoy, Jr., came up with the following list of winning artworks after tallying the scores: “Ablaze of Creativity: Celebrating Filipino Artistry” (1st place); Asenso ng Pilipino (2nd place); Fruits of Labor (3rd place); Luningning (4th place); and Ang kakanyahan ng Pagkakakilanlan (5th place).
The winners all received tokens from the Embassy and a certificate of membership to the Filipino Arts Society. END
