04 December 2024 — Members of the Philippine delegation bagged honors at the 2024 World Mathematics Team Championship (WMTC) held in Doha, State of Qatar on 28 November to 01 December 2024.
Composed of two teams, the Philippine delegation earned 11 individual awards, including 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze, and 1 Merit award. The Top Award in the Intermediate Category Team Competition also went to a Philippine team.
The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines, represented by Consul General and First Secretary Cassandra B. Sawadjaan, joined the young Filipino mathematicians during the awarding rites.
Carrying the theme, “Algebra and Balancing,” this year's edition of the WMTC paid tribute to Islamic scholar Al-Khwarizmi, emphasizing the principles of balance and fairness in solving equations.
The event drew a total of 800 math students, including 443 international participants. It challenged them to solve complex problems through individual, relay, and team-based rounds while fostering international camaraderie and collaboration.
