DOHA 24 September 2024 — The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in the State of Qatar underscored the importance of architecture as a vital component under the design domain of the Philippines’ broader creative economy during the general membership meeting and 14th founding anniversary celebration of the United Architects of the Philippines-Qatar Chapter on 20 September 2024.
In her remarks read by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Jeffrey Batac, Ambassador Lillibeth V. Pono noted that recent economic data from the Philippine Statistics Authority shows that the creative economy accounts for at least 7.1 percent of the country’s GDP.
It is for this reason that in 2022, the Philippines enacted Republic Act No. 11904, also known as the the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, which marks a legislative milestone, setting the stage for the Philippines to further nurture and elevate its creative sectors, including architecture.
The month of September also marks the observance of Philippine Creative Industries Month, which aims to promote and raise awareness about the role of creative industries in nation-building and socioeconomic advancement.
