Philippine Ambassador to the State of Qatar Alan L. Timbayan arrived in Doha and took charge of the Embassy on March 8, 2017 and presented his credentials to the Emir H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on 27 March 2017.
Prior to his assignment in Qatar, Ambassador Timbayan is a seasoned diplomat who previously served as Philippines Labor Attaché in 3 different Foreign Service Posts, namely: Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (1987-1990), Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (1990-1994) and Osaka, Japan (1996-2003).
During his tour of duty in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Timbayan was designated by the Department of Labor and Employment with the concurrence of the Philippine Embassy in Riyad as Acting Labor Attaché with jurisdiction over the Kingdom of Bahrain, State of Qatar, Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Yemen prior to the opening of a Philippine Embassy and/or Philippine Consulate in the Gulf States.
He graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and with a degree of Master of Arts in Islamic Studies in 2015 both at the University of the Philippines. He also graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Lyceum of the Philippines University in 1971. He worked for various government agencies during the course of his public service career spanning more than 30 years.
Ambassador Timbayan is a recipient of numerous awards and commendations given by public and private groups and institutions. He is the seventh (7th) Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to the State of Qatar.
Ambassador Timbayan is married to Mme. Cynthia Gonzales Timbayan. They have a daughter, Ms. Mary Aisha G. Timbayan, who is currently residing in the Philippines.
