Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Qatar were established on 5 May 1981. 
 
For over a decade, Qatar was covered by the Philippine Embassy in the United Arab Emirates.The Philippine Government opened an Embassy in Doha in May 1992.  Located in the West Bay Area, the Embassy was initially headed by First Secretary and Consul Mariano A. Dumia as Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i. The Qatari Government, in turn, opened an Embassy in Manila in 1994.
 
The first resident Philippine Ambassador to Qatar was H.E. Antonio B. Magtibay (1994-1998). He was succeeded by Amado S. Tolentino, Jr. (1999-2002), Wenceslao Jose O. Quirolgico (2002-2005), Isaias F. Begonia (2005-2009), Crescente R. Relacion (2009-2015) and Wilfredo C. Santos (2015-2017).
 
H.E. Alan L. Timbayan is the current Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the State of Qatar, while H.E. Ali bin Ibrahim Ahmad Al-Malki is the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Philippines.

The Embassy is open to the public from Sundays to Thursdays, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm (no lunch breaks).  Processing of all applications (except visa, 7am-12pm only) and releasing of passports and documents at the Consular Section is all day and no appointment is required.
 
The Embassy is closed on Fridays, Saturdays and on Philippine and Qatar-declared holidays. On weekends and public holidays, Filipinos in distress who need urgent assistance may call the duty officer during the usual office hours at telephone no. (+974) 4483 1585 and the 24/7 emergency consular mobile hotline (+974) 5527 5123. 
 
Assistance to Nationals Section (ATN) also maintains a 24/7 mobile hotline (+974) 6644 6303 dedicated for emergency calls.
 
For labor/welfare related cases, POLO-OWWA assigned a duty officer who handles calls beyond office hours at 24/7 mobile hotline (+974) 5535 4541

Proper Attire
 
Visitors are requested to come in appropriate attire. The following are considered inappropriate attire and visitors are advised to avoid wearing them in doing transactions in the embassy:
  1. Gauzy, transparent shirts or blouse and pants that expose undergarments;
  2. Sando, strapless or spaghetti-strap blouse;
  3. Shirts/blouses with plunging necklines;
  4. Walking shorts, cycling shorts, leggings, pants/shorts with very low waistlines;
  5. Shorts / mini-skirts with cuts of more than three (3) inches above the knee;
  6. Slippers and/or other informal footwear.

 

Helpful advice when visiting the Embassy

  1. Try to avoid peak hours normally between 7 am to 10 am;
  2. Check if personnal appearance is needed;
  3. Fill out and complete all forms in advance;
  4. Bring all required documents, prepare copies if needed;
  5. Bring the right amount of money.
